Can I download a title mutiple times during the checkout period?

Yes. Download titles during the checkout period from the My eItems Checked Out page.

How can I see titles that are available for check out right now?

Use the 'Advanced Search' page. To display all of the titles that are available for check out right now, check the 'Only show titles with copies available' box on the 'Advanced Search' page. You can also further narrow your search, by Subject or Format, for example.

 

What is an enhanced title?

Enhanced titles come with additional material provided by the publisher. Once you have checked out an enhanced title, you will be able to download the title and the additional material. An enhanced title counts as a single checkout.

 

Is there a mobile version of this website?

Yes. The mobile version should display automatically when you access http://e.hbpl.org/ on your mobile device.

 

What formats can I download from the mobile version of this website?

The formats you can download from the mobile version depend on your mobile device…

  • Adobe EPUB eBooks can be downloaded to devices running Android v1.5 (or newer), BlackBerry v4.5 (or newer), iOS v4.0 (or newer), or Windows Phone 7 using OverDrive Media Console v2.0 for Android, BlackBerry, iPhone, or Windows Phone 7.

  • Kindle Books can be checked out on your mobile device and downloaded to any Kindle device via Wi-Fi or USB.

 

I am trying to access this site on my mobile device, but my browser shows the standard site instead of the mobile site. What should I do??

  1. Close the web browser on your device.
  2. Open the browser
  3. Delete cookies.
  4. Delete temporary Internet files.
  5. Access http://e.hbpl.org/ again.
    The mobile version of the website should be displayed.

I got a "Security Warning" error in Android while browsing this site. What should I do?

If you get a security warning while browsing our website on an Android device, click 'Continue' to add the security certificate to your browser’s list of accepted sites.

How do I return an eBook early?

Using Kindle

  • Kindle titles are managed directly through your amazon account.
  • Go to amazon.com and login to your account.
  • Click on “Manage Your Kindle”.
  • Locate your public library title and select “Return this Book” from the Actions dropdown menu. Click “Yes” to confirm. (Note: Do not just select “Delete from my library”, this will not return the item).

Using Adobe Digital Editions

  1. Open Adobe Digital Editions.
  2. Select the 'Library View' icon (in the upper left corner).
    The Adobe Digital Editions library is displayed.
  3. Under the 'Bookshelves' heading, select 'Borrowed'.
  4. Click the eBook you want to return.
  5. Click the 'Item Options' arrow (in the upper left corner of the selected eBook).
  6. Select 'Return Borrowed Item'.
  7. Click 'Return' to verify that you want to return the eBook.
    The eBook is returned.

Using OverDrive Media Console for iPhone/iPad v2.3

  1. Swipe across the eBook you want to delete.
    A 'Delete' button is displayed next to the title.
  2. Tap 'Delete' to display the return options.
  3. Tap 'Return and Delete'.
    The eBook is returned and deleted.

Using OverDrive Media Console for Android v2.3 (or newer)

  1. Tap and hold the eBook you want to return.
    The title menu is displayed.
  2. Tap 'Delete' to display the return options.
  3. Tap 'Return and Delete'.
    The eBook is returned and deleted.

Using OverDrive Media Console for BlackBerry v2.3 (or newer)

  1. Select the eBook you want to delete.
  2. Select Menu > Delete to display the return options.
  3. Select 'Return and Delete'.
    The title is returned and deleted.

Using OverDrive Media Console for Windows Phone 7

  1. On the Library screen, swipe across the eBook you want to delete.
    A 'Delete' button is displayed next to the title.
  2. Tap 'Delete' to display the return options.
  3. Tap 'Return and Delete'.
    The eBook is returned and deleted.
  4. Tap and hold a title to show the context menu.
  5. Select 'delete' to display the return options if the selected title is not expired.
  6. Select 'return and delete'.
    The title is returned and deleted.
