The last Mayor’s Award of 2018 was selected personally by outgoing Mayor Mike Posey at the December 3 Council Meeting. Mayor Posey chose City Engineer, Tom Herbel to receive the prestigious award. Tom’s infectious passion for public works, positive attitude, team spirit and volunteering at many events in the community made him the top choice for the award.
Tom graduated from California State Long Beach with a Bachelor’s of Science in Civil Engineering and is a California State Registered Professional Civil Engineer. He had previously worked in the private sector for 23 years and even was a City of Huntington Beach Public Works Director in 2009 to 2012.
Tom came to the City of Huntington Beach in 2012 as our City Engineer. He is responsible for the Engineering Design and construction of our infrastructure projects, oversees the Storm Water Quality Engineering Division as well as the Engineering Development Division.
Tom and his wife live in Huntington Beach and have raised two daughters. In his spare time, he enjoys surfing, camping, and living in Huntington Beach.
