Human Relations Task Force Presents 2 Cultural Cinema Showcases
posted on 10/13/2020.

The Huntington Beach Human Relations Task Force (HRTF) promotes and celebrates diversity in Huntington Beach through education and understanding. The Huntington Beach community-wide effort to ensure that everyone is treated with courtesy and respect, regardless of racial background, nationality, religious practice, sexual orientation, or gender, is an important element in building a better community. In support of this mission, we host a series of cultural cinema showcases each year, using the arts as a bridge to promote human dignity.

Our showcases celebrate and highlight diversity in the cinematic arts during cultural heritage months including: Black History Month in February, Asian Pacific Heritage Month in May, National Hispanic-Latinx Heritage Month in September, and Native American-First Nations Heritage Month in November. Due to COVID-19, we modified our format and went virtual, combining Asian-Pacific Heritage and Hispanic-Latinx cycles. For this cycle we received over 800 films from around the world!

From the USA to Japan to China to Singapore to the Philippines to India to Colombia to Mexico to New Zealand and many more countries, we curated an amazing variety of the top 20% of films and genres including narrative, documentary, animation, experimental and super shorts that were less than 3 minutes to share with the local community. Some of our films feature recognizable, Hollywood actors, others have debuted on HBO and enjoyed small screen releases.  Our very own Mayor Lyn Semeta also participated and selected two films as “Mayoral Selections” to be presented during the virtual screenings.

Tickets are free and you will have an opportunity to meet some of the award-winning filmmakers and participate in a Q&A segment. Huntington Beach is receiving a warm welcome from international media outlets! We invite you to join us on this cinematic journey.
