Public Comments – the Public Works Commission welcomes public comments on all items on this agenda or of community interest. Three minutes per person, time may not be donated to others. Commission on this date can take no action on any item not on the agenda. This is the time to address Commission regarding items of interest or agenda items other than public hearings. Communications on agenda items will be scheduled such that public comments may be received as close to 5:00 p.m., or later, as possible.

E. DIRECTOR’S ITEMS

E-1. Ethics Training for 2008 Compliance – Classes will be offered throughout the year to meet Ethics Training (AB 1234) requirements for 2008 compliance. As classes are offered the information will be provided to the Commissioners.

F. INFORMATION ITEMS

F-1. Active Capital Project Report – An update on active capital projects under construction, as well as those in the planning stage, is presented for the Commission's information.

F-2. Upcoming City Council Study Sessions - The City Council conducts public Study Sessions on the evenings of City Council meetings, normally beginning at 4:00 p.m., in Room B-8. A tentative listing of upcoming sessions is submitted for the Commission’s information.

G. ADMINISTRATIVE ITEMS

G-1. Seismic Retrofit of the Civic Center Tower - Plans and Specifications for the Seismic Retrofit of the Civic Center Tower are nearly 100% complete. Staff requests the Commission’s recommendation to proceed with the advertising for competitive bids.

Funding Source: Funds are budgeted in Department of Building and Safety Business Unit 81655101. The total project cost is estimated at $7 million, which includes a $3 million FEMA grant and $4 million in Redevelopment Agency funds.

Recommended Action: Recommend the Seismic Retrofit of the Civic Center Tower project to the City Council.

G-2. Advertise Downtown Water Main Replacement Project CC1283 - Plans and Specifications for the Annual Water Main Replacement Project CC1283 are in final preparation. The project is ready to advertise for competitive bids. Staff requests the Commission’s recommendation of this project to the City Council.

Funding Source: Funds for this project are available from the Water Master Plan Fund. The engineers cost estimate is $2,993,000.

Recommended Action: Recommend the Downtown Water Main Replacement Project CC1283 to the City Council.

G-3. Advertise Rotterdam Lane Improvements, CC-1310 - Plans and Specifications for the Rotterdam Lane Improvements, CC-1310 are in final preparation. The project is ready to advertise for competitive bids. Staff requests the Commission’s recommendation of this Project to the City Council.

Funding Source: A CDBG 06/07 Fund grant was received for $250,000. Additional funding of $150,000 will be allocated from the Gas Tax Fund, Sidewalk Improvements. The engineer’s estimate for this project is $400,000.

Recommended Action: Recommend the Rotterdam Lane Improvements, CC-1310 to the City Council.

G-4. Advertise Street Rehabilitation of Myrtle Drive and Normandy Lane, CC-1295, and, Roadway Improvements of Oak View Area and Mandrell Drive, CC-1309 - Plans and Specifications for the Street Rehabilitation of Myrtle Drive and Normandy Lane, CC-1295, and, Roadway Improvements of Oakview Area and Mandrell Drive, CC-1309 are in final preparation. Staff requests the Commission’s recommendation of this Project to the City Council.

Funding Source: Funds for the Myrtle Drive and Normandy Lane Imrpovements, CC-1295, are budgeted from Gas Tax. The engineer’s cost estimate for this project is $980,000.

Funds for the Oakview Area and Mandrell Drive Imrpovements, CC-1309, are budgeted from Redevelopment Agency funds. The engineer’s cost estimate for this project is $410,000.

Recommended Action: Recommend the Street Rehabilitation of Myrtle Drive and Normandy Lane, CC-1295, and, Roadway Improvements of Oakview Area and Mandrell Drive, CC-1309 to the City Council.
