Temporary Pedestrian Path Partial Closure at Dog Beach

A short section of the pedestrian path at Dog Beach has been narrowed in width due to coastal bluff erosion.  A small area of the coastal bluff from Goldenwest to Seapoint, between the two parking lots, recently collapsed toward the beach, resulting in a section of the beach path being broken off.  In the narrowed area, the City has placed some markers to direct pedestrians away from the area, and we are in the process of posting signs.  The beach path remains open, with only the pedestrian portion narrowed by approximately three feet.  We do not believe that the rest of the path is threatened by future failure.

Our dedicated staff is actively developing a comprehensive plan to permanently stabilize and restore the collapsed bluff, as well as repair the beach path and irrigation lines.  We anticipate the area to be impacted for approximately six months while the City conducts a thorough study on the cause of the failure and takes the necessary steps to rectify it.
